The Center for Gender & Refugee Studies – California and San Joaquin College of Law, New American Legal Clinic invite you to a free in-person training focused on representing clients in asylum, withholding of removal & Convention Against Torture Claims. The training will discuss recent updates and trends regarding gender, family, and gang violence-based claims. Through guided case workshops, attendees will work through protected grounds and nexus arguments in gender, family, and gang violence-based claims affected by recent case law. Workshopping is a collaborative process where attendees openly discuss facts and legal arguments to establish relief eligibility in a case. The training will also cover how to prepare and amend Form I-589 applications, especially in light of the threat of pretermission.
The training will have a morning and afternoon session. Attendees interested in workshopping their case at the training must submit a case intake form with CGRS and provide the CGRS case number when registering for the training in the form linked below. Attendees whose cases are selected for workshopping will be contacted in advance and must be available to participate in open discussion on the day of the training.
Attendees are welcome to attend one or both sessions and there will be a one-hour lunch break. There are several lunch options within walking distance, or you are welcome to bring your own lunch.
RSVP by October 16, 2026. This training is in-person only; no recording or call-in option will be available. Email CGRS-CA@uclawsf.edu for any additional questions.
