DOJ Accredited Representative, AAN

 

Biniam Ghebremichael joined African Advocacy Network (AAN) as a DOJ Accredited Representative in September 2021, where he works on affirmative asylum, family-based petitions, consular processing, adjustment of status, and naturalization cases.

Previously, Biniam served as a Judge at Civil and Appellate Regional Courts in Eritrea from 2001 to 2008. He was also Legal Counsel, Director of Administration and Secretary of Board of Directors until from 2009 to 2014 at Eritrean Airline. He taught law at College of Law in Asmara (part of the Adi Keih College).

Biniam is also a Country of Origin Expert and provided expert testimonies on Eritrean Legal Systems for organizations, courts and companies including the U.S Department of State, USCIS, Immigration Court, Canadian Supreme Court, Dutch Refugee Council, and the World Bank.

Biniam holds an LLM from the UC Berkeley School of Law. He is fluent in Tigrinya and Amharic and conversational in Arabic and French.
