The Center for Gender & Refugee Studies – California and San Joaquin College of Law, New American Legal Clinic invite you to a free in-person MCLE skills training focused on representing clients in asylum, withholding of removal & Convention Against Torture Claims. The training will discuss how a client’s age, developmental stage, trauma history, and other factors may impact a client’s narrative. The passage of time may introduce additional challenges, including changes in asylum law and policy as well as new developments impacting the case. Through role plays and case scenarios, attendees are encouraged to participate and share best practices.

The morning session (8:45 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.) will cover interviewing, framing a client’s narrative, and drafting a compelling declaration.

The afternoon session (12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.) will focus on preparing clients for interviews before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services as well as testifying in immigration court.

This training will be in-person only; there will not be a virtual option, and it will not be recorded.

Attendees are welcome to attend one or both sessions. There will be a one-hour lunch break from 11:30 a. m. – 12:30 p.m. There are several lunch options within walking distance, or you are welcome to bring your own lunch.
